Smoky Watermelon Lemon Margarita

Smoky Watermelon Lemon Margarita 

This margarita from Half Baked Harvest is a spicy twist on a classic cocktail!


2-3 cups cubed watermelon

2 shots mezcal or silver tequila

1/2 shot Cointreau (orange liquor)

1/2 lemon of juice

4 fresh basil and/or mint leaves, torn

1-2 jalapeño slices

1/4 cup sparkling water, for topping

Chili Lemon Salt

1/4 cup flaky sea salt

1 teaspoon chipotle chili powder

1 pinch granulated sugar

zest from 1 lemon

Make it a Mocktail: 

Leave out the tequila & cointreau and add a shot of orange juice so you don’t miss the zesty orange flavor! 


  1. To make the watermelon juice, blend 2 cups of cubed watermelon in a blender. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  2. To make the chili salt. Combine all the ingredients on a shallow plate & rim your glass in salt.
  3. In a cocktail shaker or glass jar, add 1/4 cup watermelon juice, mezcal/tequila, cointreau(or orange juice), lemon juice, mint/basil & jalapeño slices. Fill with ice & shake until combined, about 1 minute. Beware, the longer you shake, the spicier it will be!
  1. Strain into your prepared glass then top with sparkling water. Garnish as desired with a watermelon wedge & fresh herbs. Enjoy!
Red Sangria

Summertime Sangria

Usually made in big batches, this traditional Spanish drink from Downshiftology is a summertime staple!


1 750ml bottle of red wine

1/2 cup brandy

1 apple, sliced

2 oranges, one sliced & one juiced

1 lemon, sliced

optional: maple syrup or honey to sweeten

optional: sparkling water

garnish with extra orange slices

Make it a Mocktail:

Swap the bottle of red wine for a bottle of red grape juice, add an ounce or two of unsweetened cranberry juice for a bolder flavor & leave off the brandy. 


  1. Dice the apple, orange & lemon into small pieces. Make sure to leave the peels on & toss them into the pitcher along with the orange juice.
  2. Pour the wine, brandy & any sweetener into the pitcher. Then stir everything together until it's all combined. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight. Pro tip: the longer it sits, the more time the flavors can meld together!
  3. Serve this in individual glasses over ice. Then top with sparkling water if you'd like!
Virgin Pina Colada

If you like piña coladas & getting caught in the rain, this recipe is for you. 


2-1/4 cups unsweetened pineapple juice

1 can (15 ounces) cream of coconut

1-1/2 cups light rum

6 cups crushed ice

Pineapple wedges and/or maraschino cherries

Make it a Mocktail: 

Leave out the rum and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract!


  1. In a two quart pitcher, combine pineapple juice, cream of coconut & rum. Cover & refrigerate the mix, until chilled. 
  2. For each serving, add a generous cup of rum mixture(or vanilla) & 1 cup ice to a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into a chilled hurricane or highball glass. Cut a 1” slit into tip of a pineapple wedge and slide the wedge over rim of glass. Top with a maraschino cherry if you’d like, & enjoy!
