I guess you'd call me your typical fashion conscious New Yorker. Having worked as a merchandising expert for top fashion and beauty magazines including Vogue, Vanity Fair, Allure, Marie Claire, Self, Seventeen, O (The Oprah Magazine), and Teen Vogue, I thought I knew all the latest fashion trends.
After being diagnosed with a malignant melanoma at age 26, the deadliest form of skin cancer, I discovered something very important about the clothing that I thought was protecting me. Ordinary, light-weight clothing is often the equivalent of SPF 5! That's when my doctor informed me that sun protective clothing exists. I wondered why I hadn't heard of sun protective clothing, but when I saw the available options, I knew exactly why.
Sun protective clothing is only helpful if you wear it, and I realized there was a need to develop STYLISH, 100% cotton, UPF clothing for my fellow fashion-conscious friends.
So with the help of my loving husband (who also battled skin cancer), we formed Cabana Life. The recent birth of our daughter has helped fuel our desire to protect and educate children and parents alike.
Trust me, I never expected to hear the "C" word, and at such a young age! But if we can use our experiences to help you protect yourself or loved ones, we've accomplished our goal. Since you can't escape the sun, protect yourself from its harmful rays while looking fabulous. That's what Cabana Life is all about.
