It's barely even September, and already pumpkin spice everything is filling up the shelves. It's too bad Cabana Life doesn't make pumpkin spice dresses, or they'd be the perfect addition to your fall outfits. (Oh wait--our dresses already transition you wonderfully into fall).
1. Candy Apple Cider
This one's easy--just add a splash of caramel-flavored vodka to a bottle of hard apple cider, and sip away.
2. Spiced Sangria
Pour 1 part apple cider to 3 parts red wine in a saucepan. Add 1 tsp of cinnamon and a 1/2-inch chunk of fresh ginger. Add a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of cardamom. Bring to a simmer, then strain out any major spice powder bits and the ginger. Cool it down in the fridge, then serve over ice with crunchy sliced apples on top.
3. Apple Cider Mimosas
Mix equal parts sugar and cinnamon and spread on a plate. Wet the rim of a wine or champagne glass and turn upside down to coat it in cinnamon-sugar. Pour champagne in the glass, then add a splash of cider.
4. Pomegranate-Cranberry Margarita
It's not quite time to mix the cranberry sauce with the turkey, but that doesn't mean you can't add the tart-but-fruity flavor to your cocktail. Mix together 1/4 cup pomegranate juice, 1/4 cup chunky whole cranberry sauce, 1/4 cup lime margarita mix and 1-2 oz. tequila. Swirl in some honey or simple syrup until it's as sweet as you'd like it. You can also blend with ice for a frozen version.
5. Black and Tan
If you're more of a beer girl, go Irish with this surprisingly light beverage. Fill a glass halfway with a red ale (like Smithwicks). Top it with Guinness. To help keep the Guinness in a separate layer on top of the lighter beer, pour it gently over the back of a spoon so that it hits the side of the glass before settling onto the lower layer. You can also trade out the lower layer of beer for a hard cider.
6. White Russian
With the changing weather, you have an excuse to drink something a little richer. Mix equal parts vodka, kahlua and cream for a cocktail that's perfect for sipping on the couch as you watch the new seasons of your favorite fall TV shows.
7. Pear Sangria
If you just can't bear to leave summer's refreshing cocktails behind, try one of these cool and delicious fall cocktails. Pour a bottle of Moscato (or any sweet white wine) into a pitcher. Add 1/4 cup honey or simple syrup, a chopped apple and a chopped pair, the juice from two limes, a splash of lemon liqueur and a can of selzer and mix. This tastes better the longer you let it sit.
So pull on a dress, throw on some boots and a filmy scarf, and sip on some of these fall cocktails that will also help you transition into the season.
