Cinco de Mayo Margarita Recipe


It’s Cinco de Mayo, the official start of summer. Just kidding—summer doesn’t begin for another month and a half. But you’re starting to feel the pull of the longer days, the brighter sun and the warmer air. It’s calling you to relax, unwind and have a drink.

Even if you don’t live near the beach, you can take advantage of the friendly spring temperatures. Get your friends together for an evening cocktail to ring in this festive day. You can even usher in the feeling of being on vacation by putting on a women’s rashguard or beach cover up. Just throw it on over your spring capris for a cute, laid-back look to go with your Cinco de Mayo margarita recipe.

The recipe is below. It’s easy to make and full of fresh ingredients, so you don’t have to use that chemical-laden bottled mix from the grocery store.

What You Need:

  • Coarse salt
  • ¼ cup tequila
  • 3 TBSP fresh lime juice
  • 2 TBSP fresh orange juice
  • 1 tsp agave nectar

What To Do:

Stir all of the ingredients except the salt together, or shake them in a cocktail shaker. Pass a lime wedge along the edge of your glass, and then turn the glass upside down onto a plate full of salt. Turn the glass right-side up, fill it with ice, and pour in your cocktail.

To make this Cinco de Mayo margarita recipe, you don’t have to fuss with a blender or specialty mixes. All you need is tequila and a bag of citrus. You can even swap out the agave for maple syrup, honey or sugar in a pinch.
