Remember the days when summer meant instantly glowing skin? Now that you’re older and wiser, you head outdoors with a sunhat, UV protective sunglasses and a beach cover up. You got smart. But sometimes you miss those days when your skin was effortlessly radiant. Don’t even think about skimping on the sunscreen. We all know that a tan is never healthy. Instead, reveal your skin’s natural glow with a homemade facial scrub.
Coconut Sugar Olive Oil Homemade Facial Scrub
- Granulated sugar (white, brown, organic, whatever you have)
- Coconut Oil
- Olive Oil
- Essential oils (geranium, carrot seed and frankincense are great for the skin)
To make this homemade facial scrub, fill up a jar about ¾ full with sugar. Jelly-sized mason jars work well. You’ll need enough oil to fill the jar around the sugar. You’ll use about 1/3 cup of each type of oil if you are using a jelly jar. If not, adjust the amounts to the size of the jar that you're using. Melt 1/3 cup of coconut oil until it’s in the liquid stage. Don’t make it too hot, though, or it will melt the sugar. Pour the coconut oil slowly over the sugar. You may need to mix it up to fill all the spaces between the sugar granules. Pour in the olive oil to the top of the jar. Add a few drops of essential oil and mix well.
How do you use this homemade facial scrub?
Any time you need to revive your skin, use the scrub as an exfoliant or as a cleanser. Oil combats oil, so this is one of the best ways to fight the greasies that come with warmer weather.
Splash your face with warm water, then dig out a small handful and massage it on your skin using a gentle circular motion. You can do this for up to five minutes. When you’re finished, splash your face with warm water to rinse off the scrub. You can wipe off any excess oil with a wet washcloth before patting your face dry with a towel. This scrub can also be used on your body in the shower.
Who needs a tan to look dazzling? This homemade facial scrub will improve cell regeneration and circulation, helping you fight the signs of aging and reveal brighter, more luminous skin.
