Spring Cleaning for Your Body

Cabana Life 50+ UV Sun Protective ClothingFrom November to April, it seems like there’s at least one indulgent holiday every month. By the time spring comes, you may feel sluggish and drained. There’s a quick and gentle way to get your energy back while taking care of yourself. It’s the spring maintenance detox.

Start by clearing your schedule. You can do the spring cleanse during a relaxing weekend, or you can take a day or two off of work so that you can truly give yourself the rejuvenation you deserve. This gentle cleanse isn’t a drastic detox. Listen to your body and do what feels good in order to release toxins, boost your energy and clear your mind.

Detox Yoga
Start the day by moving your body. You can simply stretch in bed, but doing a series of detoxifying yoga will help get your blood flowing and your mind focused. Sweating will also help to release some toxins.

Green Juice
Blend together one cucumber, one apple, a stalk of celery, a handful of spinach, a ½-inch knob of ginger, a few sprigs of parsley and thin slice of lemon for a green smoothie that contains healthy fiber to fill you up and keep your digestion moving. Drink this for breakfast, for lunch and as an afternoon snack, followed by a glass of water.

Eat Your Greens
If you’re hungry and need to chew on real food, make yourself a salad of dandelion greens and spinach. Drizzle on a dressing made from olive oil and apple cider vinegar. You can also add some roasted zucchini or brown rice to your salad for more flavor and sustenance.

Drink Up
Make sure that you drink at least ten 8-ounce glasses of water throughout the day to help flush toxins out of your system and stay hydrated. You can drink herbal tea as well.

This gentle cleanse will help you reconnect with yourself and clear your body and spirit of the weight—both physical and metaphorical—that the winter can bring on. It will help you begin the season feeling renewed and energized so that you can take advantage of the sunny days to get outside in your rashguard and sun protective clothing.
